As far as I know, and I could be wrong, (I often am, just ask my wife) both the MPH and ET records are held by the Alaskan Grizzly. Both on July 4, 2006. Two different runs. The ET record is 5.44 and the MPH record is 279.51. On July 4, 2007 Grant Downing ran a 5.32 but I was told it was not "backed-up" so it was not official. I'm not sure what that means. I have the Grizzly's 279MPH run and Grant Downing's 5.32 run on my website at: www.auroradigitalarts.com/free.htm

Thanks Dan, that's damn fast.
Anyone have an idea on what time the track would hold? Seems like someone messing with therrack record would be quite the event to watch.

For an index class, they drop the index if it's a run of .500 under. NOT two runs of .500 under and track records only take one pass. For a national record, a back-up is needed.

Thanks Bill except I'm still a little (no, really a lot) confused. Does that mean that Grant just had to make another run down the track to make the 5.32 run "official"? That was the weekend from hell... lots of rain! Remember your explaining this to a non racer.

Dan, I think it's an individual track thing. Some require a back-up, and some don't. If you watch the Nationals on ESPN, You'll see cars breaking the track record, but they don't require a back-up pass to make it official.

Record Setting Procedures: Any records set must be backed up either the same day, or in the event of a multi day event, it must be backed up during that same event. The back up run must be within 1% of the sub-record time.
Lets say I get my junk to run a 5.40 elasped time. All I need is a now is a 5.454 or better that day / week end to be the man. How hard can that be!

Records: • Blown Alcohol Dragster: 5.642 at 240.85 – Rich Kirk • Blown Alcohol Funny Car: 6.240 at 229.86 – Jay Childs • Pro Mod: 6.659 at 214.14 – Steve Cook • Naturally Aspirated Dragster: 6.579 at 207.35 – Dave Mattison • Track Record: 5.44 at 279.5 – Jamie Bodenstadt • Must be backed up within 1% margin at the same event. That be the list, copy and paste from the ARP website (Look in Rules) Tune up your junk and break a record! www.alaskaracewaypark.com/wp-admin/docs/ARP_Rules2010.pdf

Excuse me, I was looking at the NHRA rules and it starts out by saying NHRA National Record Procedures. It says nothing about track records, that I found.

Thanks Dan, that's damn fast. Anyone have an idea on what time the track would hold? Seems like someone messing with therrack record would be quite the event to watch. What is ARP shutdown length?? LVMS strip states 4000 ft start to fin. Is start at the line or staging lanes and is the 200 ft sand/net runoff included in overall track length?? While at Vegas Nat'l, a 190 mph ProStock bike lost brakes on a qual run and ended up in the sand. I'd be curious what people think the track will hold too. www.topspeedmotorplex.com/p4_didrag_req_art.htm

Thanks guys. I "get it" now, although it seems to me that if a track really trusted their equiptment, they wouldn't require a "backup" for a track record. You guys know better than I do how things can change in an hour or two between one run and the next.

Well dan, sometimes the electronics can be unaccurate or unreliable. I remember about two years ago with moms altered, she deep staged or rolled through and back on the beams, and when she went through the traps, it showed her e.t as 7.26 @ 148 My father and I turned and looked at eachother and said the same thing, "What the hell?" I've seen it happen other times too with other cars. So I guess if it happened with a car like the grizzly, it could show up as like 4.71 at 278 and that could be concidered a world record I believe? So the back up isn't so bad in some cases. By the way dan, thanks for the season video. I think i've watched it about 6 times studying people and thier habits.
