Well Guys and girls you have stepped in it here. I know this car well and what was said but not stressed upon is this car has no motor or trans in right now so strut is completely extended. I have personally had control arms on both ways if flipped around they will bind in normal ride mode or compression. Notice chassis height. J

But, I have never seen a strut control arm with the spherical joint pointing down like that. I would like to see a picture with the strut at full compression.

I am going to pull the springs this weekend, and see exactly what the front suspension is doing at ride height, check bump steer, and all in all simply try to educate myself on this stuff. The more I learn, the less I know and frankly I want to get off the bus, and just drive my freaking car without me freaking out ;D
The last thing I want to do in the world is shed any bad light on Jay Childs Race Cars! Wes and Jay helped me achieve exactly what I wanted and asked for. They're great talented people. Nuff said. And for the record, Rodcraft is the company that welded up this part of the car. (Who is now out of business of course) Rodcraft built beautiful street rods, but had never attempted a race-car. (let alone a tube frame strut front end car) His name is Blake. We like to call him flake. (another story)
For all I know Flake has the geometry for the strut's all wrong. He kind of knew what he was doing, but mostly he just Forest Gumped through the chassis part. He nailed the body, but welding up a big pile of tubes laying on the floor was a little out of his league.
So being that I don't I know what I'm talking about, lack of trust in the person that did this part of the car and the fact that this car drives like shit. I want it fixed. I didn't want to build a car like this just to look pretty. It needs to win rounds, and it won't win like this.
This control arm looks all wrong to me, but I am an idiot.
How the HELL do I measure the freaking caster!!!!!!!!!!! Am I reading the freaking level correctly and what the hell is up with this invisible line that keeps creeping into my nightmares!
Thanks for the input though guys. ;D

Take a deep breath, it will all work out. Caster is nothing more than the angle of the spindle or in your case, angle of the strut. You are measuring correctly as long as the gauge is sitting flat on the strut. !!!!!!BUT, you need to measure everything at normal ride height!!!!!!! According to your gauge you have 9 and 9.2 degrees of caster. Once again, measure at normal ride height. Not sure on the invisible line part though.

I respect jay a ton but even with weight on it i dont think itd look right. Put the motor in or have people stand on the front and see where it goes. Then u can tell for sure. i still think ur gna have to put a wing on her. I know u dnt want to bc it wnt look as good but like u said, it needs to win races too.

Just a word on wings/spoilers.. I took the one off my Vega years ago and I could not drive that car past half track.. It was pushing all over the place..All the weight is on the nose and it all starts coming off the rear ... Just my 2 cents,on the subject.

I said I'd be the first to admit if I was wrong. So, I was wrong. I saw an outlaw car today that had the exact same control arms as you and it was set up exactly like yours.
