Probably a good question to ask Scotty at Racing School.

Asked dad today at Hansen transmission about the neutral thing and he said it wouldn't hurt anything. He said he has mom leave the car in gear to help slow the car down without taking a hellride on the brakes. He said it might hurt something if you keep doing it over and over for 5-6 seasons without refreshing. I'm going to use neutral too when I have the truck.

Danger: Never Spool Engine in Park Doing so Will cause serous damage to Engine and Transmission
•All cars with 600 or more fly wheel horse power must run SFI safety blanket or transmission shield
•Cars that are street driven should always fallow NHRA safety guide lines.
•3 speed and overdrive transmissions: Caution never shift into neutral position at high speeds. This will cause internal components of the transmission to rotate 2 and ½ times faster than your finish line RPM. (Example, If your car’s finish line RPM is 7,500 RPM’S and the Transmission is shifted to neutral then the internal components will spin at 15,000 RPM’s THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! The parts are spinning so fast, they can explode, turning your transmission into a shrapnel type bomb possibly causing bodily injury and death.
•On full competition transmissions with manual valve bodies or transmission brake down shifting to second will cause the same reaction. This also is very dangerous and not recommended.
On all ROSSLER TH210 transmissions and some specialty built transmission’s equipped with our billet high gear drum with specific modifications, can safely be shifted to neutral at high speeds
[glow=red,2,300]These are some safety tips from Carl Rossler, So it sounds like it depends on your Tranny and how it is put together and with what Parts???[/glow]

Sounds like rossler is trying to sell transmissions by saying you need to buy his hi quality stuff so you can shift into neutral. What I asked my dad was powerglide specific also. I didn't ask about 3 speed transmissions. But who runs 3 speeds anymore, that's for slow guys, sorry candyman!

Also, 7,500 X 2 = 18,750.... Not 15,000 nd I would sorta like to see one of those trannys that has done that at 15k rpm. Would be interesting to look at. with my father and mighty mike saying its ok to do with a powerglide, I would believe it with 65-70+ years between them in the tranny business. I did it in the ranger with a C4 and it was stock and never came apart and was cherry when we pulled it out. but them again, it is a FORD, they seem to last longer.

My tranny builder says its okay, so that's good enough for me. However some of the comments just don't make much sense to me. First off Devin my Friend: 7500 x 2 is 15000. Your a great photographer, terrible mathematician. ;D
And granted maybe a 3 speed does spin at twice the motors RPM when you put it into neutral, (I don't know if it does or not) but if it does, wouldn't your motor's RPM be at about idle when you hit neutral? Unless your a compete idiot and hold it to the wood when you cross the stripe! Racers that practice this, I am sure let off the gas at the stripe, and then hit neutral bringing the RPMs down. So if it is true, the tranny is spinning at twice the idle RPM. Big deal. Still gotta be less and wear on your equipment.

I don't like bring the motor down on the Tranny, I deal with it....
Oh Ya, No glove, shoes, pants, I'm livin' on the wild side.

Last time out on the blower motor; Jay G was wearing his SFI Jesus slippers. Pull the straps tight and let it rip.

Bob Richardson told me to use this technique on my TH400 over 20 years ago and have never had a trans problem. But make double shure that the shifter is adj. right cause reverse is not good at all so I hear.
