I'm in Fire Suppression Mode. IHRA rule book states: "3 nozzles for a 10# system. 2 pointed at the front of the engine, one at the drivers feet"
Question is: Does it matter how high or low I mount the nozzles at the front of the engine? I wanted to put them on one of lower frame tubes, but now I'm second guessing myself.
Also...The kit came with 10' of aluminum tubing, and a few AN fittings. Rule book state's, only SS tube can be used. So I buy 25" of 1/4" SS tube and route it in such a way that it looks good, fairly well hidden and is clean. I used -4 AN fittings, bulkheads, 90's etc and about 18' of tubing just on the front two nozzles.
This is okay isn't it? I'm concerned that my tube is too long, or too many fittings. (first time I've ever worried my tube was too long ;D)

Clint when I put the fire system in my vega I had the bottle mounted on the main hoop passenger side. Line came out to a T with one going to driver feet, the other going out to the front along the frame rail, with one nossle on each side of the motor. Hope that kinda helps..

Clint, What kit did you get? Thinking thats good money spent for your safety. Being ON FIRE would really suck. Dont ask me how I know. Looking for one for the Camaro.................
Have you invested in some good driver protection in the form of suit / gloves / HANS?

I have to agree with mike, your a craftsmen. When i had mine i just thought "Flood the Engine compartment" and "Protect my Butt". Just think about where that stuff is going to under pressure. Don't forget, Take a deep breath if possible, before you hit that button. As for the safety gear, What's your Butt worth? Simple math on that one.

Clint, What kit did you get? Thinking thats good money spent for your safety. Being ON FIRE would really suck. Dont ask me how I know. Looking for one for the Camaro................. Have you invested in some good driver protection in the form of suit / gloves / HANS? I got the DJ Safety Cold Fire, 10# bottle w/ 3 nozzles. I have nothing to compare too, so can't speak too intelligently about it. It looks cool so I like it! ;D If you want some feedback, here are my mistakes: Before you quick-draw the credit-card: Measure the distance between your button and where the bottle will be.This is your cable length. I ordered first and read second. I had to reorder the steel tubing. (2 separate orders from Summit, and I'll end up using about 30') I'm on my 3rd order right now for -4AN fittings, (because I didn't map out my plumbing very well) Parts should be here Wednesday. You'll need the 37* flaring tool. I should have realized this when I was ordering all the 37* AN fitting's and bare tubing. But I waited until the box arrived to confirm that I still didn't own a 37* flaring tool. The Parker Store was kind enough to help me out with one that they were they were very proud of. (I'm sure it wasn't ANY cheaper on the internet) The instructions from DJ Safety were a very cruel joke by the way. I would like to shove 10' of aluminum tubing up the SOB that printed this. As far as safety clothing goes: no I haven't,......yet. The go-fast money is going fast. I need to have the horse before the cart I guess. And thanks for the vote's of confidence and tips. It does help a lot for somebody that has never done this before.

As far as fire suits? IHRA calls for sfi-3.2A-5 jacket and pants or suit, Neck collar mandatory in Brackets 0-9.99. And no re-fueling during a run. just in case anyone wanted to try that one. It's sad to think a rule is made because someone tried to do it.

wait, so to run quicker then 9.99, you HAVE to have fire pants on too? Or is it 9.00? Uncle Mike runs 9.6's and only wears blue jeans and a fire jacket. Then again, he only has one leg to loose. and yea.... sorry, I couldn't reach far enough out the door to get the fuel into the cell, they got pretty pissed when i fell out and dropped gas all over the place. Good thing I was racing a ford. the rear end locked up before it hit anything. wpheew.

Thanks Mike. Im gonna nick name you Clarify. haha, Clarifycation Mike. Yeah, I won't be running anywhere near 9.0. I'll be lucky if im running at all. I'm gonna wear the Neck Collar just as a safety precaution. Might as well sit in the chassis with my helmet on and make vroom vroom noises, because that's all thats gonna be happening if I don't bring some money in.

I bought -20 gear last year in Vegas from Simpson. Not required but CHEAP piece of mind for my wife. Yep, enough gear to run a Funny Car. Overkill? Take a look at the fire fighting capability at ARP and your best guess on response time should you be upside down and on fire! Why do most folks think minimum requirements when addressing safety gear? Thinking the neck collar is for show and need a HANS type unit.

How about we just don't catch on fire? But your right candyman. For the most part, I wouldn't rely on ARP's "safety" crew. No offense to them, but its a little underpowered.

Regardless of what you run, you should always go that extra step to protect yourself. As good as the ARP folks are, you are responsible for your own safety. As my friend that runs Nitro in Oregon says, "What's your Ass Worth to you?". In my rail i wear, a SFI-20 suit, Full nomex under wear, SFI-5 shoes, SFI-15 funny car boots, SFI-15 Gloves, Nomex balacava, SFI- Nomex lined Helmet, SFI-15 nitro face mask, and Halon fire system. I am covered for about 45 seconds before i get second degree burns. Maybe. In my truck, I have SFI-5 Jacket and pants, sfi-5 shoes and gloves. and a nomex lined helmet. And all i hope is that i never ever have to test this stuff.
