You are not a cheater because you have delay box in your car or if you are considering puting one in. Do not listen to the persons that would call you a cheater. They are few, they are uneducated. they are self proclaimed idiots. They are however exactly like the man standing on the dock pointing out to sea telling everyone the world is flat. It often takes courage to travel the the unknown path, but if you take the journey, face the perils, embrace the adventure, taste the nectar of the foreign land, then and only then as you face your twilight years, you will take comfort from, and be very proud that you were not intimidated nor impeaded by the stupidity that is the status quo. I think that challenging someone's beliefs and calling them an idiot makes you look like some what of an idiot. I know that you arent greg, I know that you are a very smart guy, but calling John uneducated and a self proclaimed idiot isn't called for, because I know for a fact that john crump is a very very smart old school drag racer. He believes In man and machine, as do I. I believe that electronics should be for safety and safety of the wallet like a 3 step. because some cars shouldn't be shifted by the driver. I can say from experience that when I had to shift moms car manualy, it was 3x the handful. I will be shiftinh my truck manually though. But hell, if I wanted safety and consistancy, i would have bought a dragster or 9.00 door car with an electric Shifter, delay box and a digital ignition box, boring.... Give me a door slammer, my right hand on the shifter, my left hand on the button and a 6.al box mounted to the dash. Oh and 1/8th mile burnouts, actually driving and having the element of surprise hanging over my shoulder. Fun.
And I hate ti say it Jeff, but i laughed when i saw your post.

And as far as status quo goes... Seems like you go with the status quo Greg, you ran the charger in mod until top e.t got big and you got tired of my uncle mike beating your ass so you went to top. Same with Clint. Don't worry boys, its the welshmeister throw down, coming to a class near you.
I do still respect you both. Just so you know.

I Believe Father Thornsley!I believe! I have traveled the unknown path of delay boxes and air-shifters and I have been saved from the pitfalls of bottom bulb racing! I have faced the perils of Mighty Mike, Greg Thornsley and the Ginnett's and tasted the sweet nectar of victory over the Mighty Trio! I believe they can be beat! It was a perilous journey but I made it!

FOR ONE THING! No one ever said anyone was cheating! And most of us are very educated and well informed. The history of "The cheater Box" is well documented and the problems it has caused Drag Racing are facts. For that reason they created it's own class. Today, It's called just a "BOX" because they have their own class and race cars equiped with the same "BOX". The only "CHEATERS" are those that hide a "BOX" in their cars to run a different class and take advantage of those that don't want one or don't have one. Just so they can win and feel good about themselfs. They are the losers. Those i believe are the Idiots and are sure to get caught one day. They ruin everyones fun until they get caught, then the fun really begins. And if you forget what this forum is for, it's to have fun and i liked hearing what Clint had to say. He did a great job of defending the use of the box and i appreciate all he said. I still don't like the "BOX" but he has every right to use one in his class. I really hate cheaters more. i appreciate your comments and the unknown path is 1320 feet long, the Perils are getting through tech, i don't know about your adventures, but i've been on a few good trips, Had a beer from germany, and Intimidated, impeaded by stupidity?? is Obama here??? and i like the status que it tastes like chicken.

Clint, well done, hilarious. The whole delay box thing is old. If they weren't legal, we wouldn't run them. There is no basis for judging Drag Racing skllls and goals based on whther or not you run a delay box. All of us box competiors ran without one for years. We choose to run them simply because they are legal, therefore to be competitive in such classes, you damn well better know how to operate and utilize one.

I think the first post was by one of them Cheaters that have to leave off the top bulb because they can't find a decent place to leave off the bottom bulb.
I don't get the whole Box (Top ET) & No Box (Mod ET) deal, and the fans probably don't either. One would think that Top ET would be some really fast cars compared to Mod ET. But Mod has cars just as fast, sometimes quicker even. All the fans see in Top ET is the same racing that they seen in Mod ET, except they are told its Top ET cars.
If the fan knew what to watch for on the finish line board and see the reaction times of Top ET cars like, Left Lane .002 / Right Lane .003, they may think "Those are really great racers". Then they see the Mod ET reaction times like. .045 / .102 and think “Man them guys are slow off the line”. What they don’t see is that the Mod ET guys are “Thinking then Reacting” while the Top ET guys just “React”, kind of like a Nervous Tick, they don’t know why they did it, it just happened.

That's my point. The box class can make their test runs, Ok, I redlite by 2-1000th, ok dial in 2-1000th into the box. Run again, redlite by 1-1000th, so put that in the box plus maybe 1 more just to be safe. Another run and bingo! .02/.03 lights almost everytime.
The no-box guy blinks at the wrong mili-second and he has a .200 light or if he trys to anticipate the light he red lights. But it's fair to run these two cars together or the no-box guy can just go buy a box and do the same thing. How about we just keep the two classes seperate and call it good. That way everyone wins at their own level. And maybe give out handouts to educate the spectators as to the difference between the classes so they understand the difference and know what to watch for. Again!! I am not against the use of the box. Just don't run them with no-box cars.

I am not against the use of the box. Just don't run them with no-box cars. Yes you are right to a point. When I was in Edmonton this year, I kept red-lighting, so I kept on adding delay to the box what I was red-lighting by. The problem was I kept on getting quicker, and kept on red-lighting, so I kept on adding to the delay. After 3 days of losing, I finally ended up with .050 MORE delay than what I usually run at home. When I red-lit by a .01, I added .015 and still red-lit and so on. Granted I am pretty new to the box, so I learned a lot. Perhaps a more experienced box racer may have done better, but it ate my lunch. Whole point here.... Its not as easy as people seem to think it is. You still have to hit the button on a bulb, and your "delay" will change with light conditions, track conditions, time of day etc... And... Box cars do not compete against no-box cars so we all can get along.... right? And your right, we should educate the fans more. One cool thing the announcer did in Edmonton when a car was lining up, was give the fans a short little bio on him/her. This would be a great time to explain this to the spectators.

Well if I was to ever use a delay box, and god knows I need one, cuz I can't cut a lite for squat. I would start by putting in 1.050 and adjust from there. I need to get one to run in King of Street anyway.
