Accommodating a larger horsepower capacity in your car's engine can result in number of performance benefits for a vehicle. Typically, car tuners have used strategic physical additions that improve horsepower output, such as aftermarket turbochargers which can boost a vehicle's HP by several hundred points or more. Engine replacement is another option, particularly on cars that are frequently modified by tuners, such as Honda Civics. New engines and turbo kit installations can be prohibitively expensive, and as such even many experienced tuners skip out on modifications of this kind. In order to save money and time, many opt instead to install aftermarket performance chips, which typically only cost a hundred dollars or less, and can be installed in 15-30 minutes. The amount of horsepower added is usually in the range of 10-15%, and tends to be on the higher end when paired with other upgrades such as turbochargers.
