I just did a quick read through IHRA 2013 rulebook & supplemental but couldn't find anything for on car camera usage. Does anyone know if there are restrictions with in IHRA for use??? NHRA bans use of suction cup mounts inside or outside, positioning is restricted, permanent outside mounts only, no use of plastic mount such as the GoPro composite plastic roll bar mounts. They all have to be metal mounts.

Maybe they should ask an expert like you before they come up with rules. But you're not a Big High Paying Sponsor that makes the camera's and mounts, so they won't care for your opinion.

I didn't know there were rules on the camera mounts until I had loaned mine out to some drivers at the Street Car Super Nationals in Vegas...they were told to remove them from the car when they pulled up to the water box since they were suction mounts...a guy next to me stated Vegas was a NHRA track and the event went by NHRA rules. I found some threads on Yellow Bullet on the rules that were debated fairly heavily. Someone mentioned that the IHRA would probably adopt the NHRA rule which got me looking into it and came up MT. I have all the faith in the world with the GoPro vac mounts as mine have been on a 250 mph pro mod run down south. Up here we went the extra mile using gorilla tape as a secondary method over the vac mounts while on the Ak Grizzly altereds & Alienator with no problems. However I can very much appreciate the Safety aspect so in hind site should have used tethors as well. Since the introduction of these small cameras, some setups at other tracks were apparently not secured well on various vehicles and flew off during runs hitting opponent vehicles and littering the track.... this prompted additional rules. They are also claiming the composite plastic roll bar mounts are cracking due to over tightening...never done it myself but can't argue the possibility. Believe it or not but one reason the camera position can't be toward your opponent was because some bracket racers had monitors set up in their cars and would watch where the other car was located allowing them to back off and not break out if they had a lead. Pretty wild stuff. Myself, I am just wondering if there are IHRA rule changes that are eluding me that may require different mounts or if it is a non-issue.
