...especially when you scramble long nights after work, bend-over for expedited shipping and burn gobs of buckaroos in fancy aftermarket parts to fix the race car in time for 8/11. It dripped all day and Earl finally had to make the call to cancel the race at 2pm even though the sun tried to come out several times (false alarm, darnit). Tough job Earl when so many are hanging on your decision--we really appreciate you ! It costs big money to open a track sogged-out by weather like we had today.
Actually, turned out to be a good chance to visit folks around the track and the staff. I learned alot asking the questions about the history....Polar Raceway was founded in 1963 and Earl purchased it from the former owners in 1994. Someone overhearing the conversation suggested he may have some photographs of racing at the old track--that would be SOOO cool ! It was agreed that Alaska Raceway Park is probably the northernmost race track in the western hemisphere. Labor Day weekend 2014 will mark ARP's 50th Anniversary and Earl is busy making ready for a visit by Gov Sean Parnell who will herald the celebration. Imagine the racket of hundreds of drag engines firing up in unison as salutation after he innaugurates another 50 years at ARP ?? Talk about history in the making !!
