I know a guy that is as particular as it gets when it comes to research / value for dollars spent and has been bracket racing for ever. When it came down to spending his dollars, Sunset won out at the end of the day. Very nice 522. That being said, it chunked a Lunati Pro Mod series rod early on in the life of that motor. Some times, good parts fail and that's racing. That engine now has Crower rods in it, and he has had those fail in the past as well! Good parts put the odds in your favor, proper assembly even more important. Still a crap shoot dealing with folks thousands of miles away. Know a local machine shop that you trust? That's another story!

So from what I read on the link, you get the 632 from intake to pan for 13,799, add 1,000 for a carb, 375 for a distributor, and 975 for a vacuum pump? Now you are at 16,124, for the extra 2,875 $, I would buy the 582 from Sunset, it's all American and is complete with a Jesel belt drive. And will probably go over the advertised 1,060 HP. I'm not judging, I'm just saying! Thanks for getting me back on path Mike. My concern was this RPM forged crank which I am sure is built overseas (along with the eagle rods that I guess can have problems at an over 1000hp) . I checked out RPM'S website and see they have h-beams, cranks, balancers, etc, never heard of them before. Just got a little excited to get something in the works now rather than saving up the little bit extra needed to get the sunset.

That's another story! There is only one local machine shop I trust up here, but not enough to all the machining of the block on a motor like this. Biggest problem up here is shops are using outdated machines for the machine work it self, not so much the assembly of the engine.

The machine shops up here are ?able at best I used Cokers on both builds on my motor and they were good but I have heard horrow stories from others on them and they are gone now. I think that If a guy finds a good machienest that will work with them they are lucky as they are hard to find. and out dated macines we are 10 to 15 years behind the states.

this is why im glad my family builds our own motors(: id go with sunset if i were to buy one. Also. the speed shop that is across from the fairgrounds is supposed to have an out of car dyno and a bunch of brand new machines for doing motor work soon. Just a rumor, but i saw them digging the spot for the dyno. Plus they are a group of nice guys with knowledge that covers anything you could put in or on a racecar.

btw, did i mention our motor is doing 8.50 on pump gas? I almost had craig and JJ convinced that it was the way to go but they said they like the smell of racegas. i like it too, but 12$ a gal for a smell is a killer compared to 3.25 a gal.

Actually the SUPER SHOPS PERFORMANCE CENTER across from the fairgrounds put in a chassis dyno, not an engine dyno. Pull your car or motorcycle in, chain it to the anchors, and drive it like you stole it (more or less). It was supposed to be ready for the first trial Friday afternoon (July 30). Don't know if it happened. Give them a call 746-3278, stop by, or talk to them at the track. They will be at the Show and Shine in Anchorage on Sunday. Here is a link to their website: www.supershops6.com/

I built my current 385ci N20 motor, other than the machine work. I did clearance the block myself for the stroker crank and file fit the rings, the boring and honing was done in town. It has had 4 seasons of 250hp shots and still runs as it did 4 years ago. I am sure its ready for bearings and rings, this was going to be my plan this winter until i decided to get off the spray and go a step further with a 1100hp BB.

If you don't mind what are the specs of your small block?
Thanks

I can tell you that it is difficult to build a motor for what they sell them for now. My 540 is a pumpgas motor (10.3to 1) and even with buying all the parts myself, having the machine work done in town, it was still over 14K.

To hirevn, thats a damn good motor to go that long on spray. What r ur plans for that motor? i like what rick said, its true but atleast if u build it, theres no cost to ship it somewhere if it breaks. Not as much as u weigh scott. Uve asked this several times, its like teaching a 6 year old. Let me spell it. Eighteen-hundred-pounds. find me a faster small cube pumpgas altered.

hey devin , 100 lbs is a 1/10 of a sec . so 3200 lbs for me , your moms motor in a 3200 lb car would be 10 second 1/4 .... if i wanted a altered i would have one. i am not trying to start another pissing match , just asked a question
