I've always felt that if its legal to drive on the road, it should be legal for KOS. Regardless of where the exhaust ends up, or if it has wipers, or how old the seat-belts are, or where the battery is located. (I could probably go on and on)

I agree, Maybe someone needs to talk with mark and earl about Tech for KOS.
Some of these guys may have never ran on a track and have no idea about the belt requirement.
Not all street cars have a 5 point harness. Or their battery isn't bolted down properly, put a strap on it!!
Or a catch can, make one! Or a license. Give them an application. Educate.
Passing Tech for a Race Car should be different then passing Tech for a street car.
I know some of the cars are Race Cars (no names) but their still streetable kind of.
But for those that are street cars, the tech should be a little less stringent but Safety comes first.
We can maybe get more racers or run someone off because of a small problem.
It's all in how it's handled.
I can see this getting better if the KOS track masters help. Dwayne,Scott,Mike,Rick,Clint, who else.
That is why you need to spell out exactly what is needed to run KOS.
Print it and hand them out at car shows and parts shops.
That way, every one knows and no one gets turned away.
KOS:
Must look and be street able.
Full frame, back halved, four link, ladder bars, slapper bars allowed.
Body: only fiberglass hood and trunk lid allowed.
Glass windshield only- No Lexan allowed
Door windows must be functional, roll up and down.
All lights required to be "Street Legal" must work, headlights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights.
Wipers must be functional, if it's required on the street.
Must have Two Seats or one bench seat. Must be able to carry passenger.
Must have battery bolted down.
Must have catch can for radiator over flow.
Tires: front tires required. Rear tires: No Drag Slicks Allowed. Must be DOT legal. Any size.
Motor: Any size, one power adder allowed, NOS, Blower, Turbo, Rocket, Rubberband, etc.
If your mom won't ride in it, it's not legal.
Must make three laps of ARP without puking or over heating, blowing up, refueling,changing drivers, checking for parts, etc.

OK! You get the idea. It's going to have to be this way or it won't work.
You guys need to spell it out. Plain and simple.

X2. Not that I have much say in this because I don't run the class (I don't think that my Mazda 4X4 or the wife's Tornado would have much of a chance lol) But it all boils down to this:
1: Street Legal is street legal. Period. DOT determins what can and can't be run on "their" roads. Hence, King of "Street".
2: IHRA determins what's legal for the speed and power level of the cars running it....and there's GOOD reason for it. Period. The santioning bodies have many years of experience KNOWING what happens at a certian power level.
So, there shouldn't be any question (in my mind at least) of what can and can't be run. It's all spelled out.
3: ARP has set forth the parameters for that particular special event. Done deal. If your car is going to blow off the DOT tires, well then you better de-tune it or adapt a different driving stratagy for the event.

And John's right, in my mind. Those of you that want to run the event (class) should get some fliers out there with all the rules spelled out in plain english, and those of us not running it need to help with the fliers also. It's our track, ALL of us need to what ever is necessary to keep the attendence and car count up.

So now we can get on this dot tire deal ? I run on 10.5 slicks , do you honestly think those are better than if I ran a 18.5 et street cause they have a couple grooves in them ? The purpose behind this discussion is to try and make it easier to get cars out there ? How bout input from kos participants ?

Cops don't care if you have a back half, fiberglass or nitrous. Lol.

If they opened kos up to slower than 14.99 I'd run my dodge.

I talked to mark about lightning up on tech for Labor Day last year , also got earl up to 15.99 for the cutoff

there are a lot of great comments on here with some good insight. the biggest issue for most of the out of towners is the tech dept. i agree that you should have what it takes to run the e.t but some real world common sense should be applied. don't send someone away because their tranny shield is outdated especially when they've only run the car once or twice during a 5 year period. really? we all know that unless it takes a hit from the tranny grenading what's going to expire? it's not a food product. the nos bottle thing is ridiculous as well. it does more damage to the bottle to test and re-certify it than it will ever see. they don't test the valve and the blow-off releases around 1300-1400 psi. they test the bottle at 1800 psi usually. i can accept the dot tire issue but it might have some bad ramifications. i would have a difficult time trying to hook up with a dot tire since i'm not tubbed or back halved especially if extra track prep is not done. i think you could get enough people to agree with the current status of 10.5w max or dot of any size. there isn't a heads up part of kos anymore so that's not an issue. there needs to be some sort of encouragement to run faster in the class. that's something that can be addressed later. the first thing is to get the class to build. let the kos racers control their class a little more. if someone is outside of the class requirement let the kos racers decide whether or not to let it slide(not the safety area just the street tech area). this class was originally a lot of fun, got some new racers involved and got some of the street racing off the streets. it has a potential to increase the car count at arp as well as the spectators.

I am a huge fan of street car racing . I say u run with the big dogs or stay on the porch!!! I have seen subaru`s that where not scared to race big block camaros heads up ! He OR she got their butt whipped.They went and spent money to come back and try to beat that camaro,chevelle,diesel truck-4x4 . If u want to bracket race they have this thing call drag racing and there classes which every car can fit in. SAFETY if your car is going to run 200 mph it needs the appropiate stuff.Guys know what`s needed ... Mark is pretty good at sniffing out rats. Tires limit speed base on track conditions just as they would if u were racing on street. I seen to many people build and buy cars for a class that keeps changing for afew. Its never good to slow somebody down that wants to go fast.Cause there is always some else trying to beat them.This i know for a fact!!! Have fun J.
