Mike, these are the same rules you came up with in April 2009, except you said then ... "My opinion is, no tube chassis cars in the class"
What you do, go build a Tube Car since then
I'm still un-decided on all this, but if I was to put on my mufflers and get new DOT tires, I'd probably run in it.

The Camaro is a no go, the Chevelle would be race ready with a working windshield wiper. That rule needs to go away, we dont race in the rain! I have been not allowed in the past, the wiper motor and linkage and all in place, just did not operate (bad motor). Tuff, you dont qualify. Hey, help me bungee cord my plexi windows up, I am fixing to make a KOS pass..........
Box cars and tube chassis? I dont mind the rules as laid out by Mike, just dont call it "King of the Street" unless those cars DROVE to the track! Liking the new digs, thanks for the site!Where is the beer cooler?

I like what Mike has to say a lot. While the tube chassis thing is really neither here not there as long as you could legally drive the car on the street for let's say 2 hours then okay. What I hated seeing was a car that couldn't make it through the McDonald's drive through nor would be allowed to run through downtown Anc or Palmer without being taken to the yard on a hook run in the class because he had wipers. That's bunk!! a tube chassis is legal on the street and if that's what you want to run fine. The 12.99 ET limit and allowing one power adder may be a little stiff though. I remember watching a couple certain Camaros running low 10's and being completely street legal. Look at what they are doing down south with the 10.5 class. Mike I agree with 95% of what you are saying and these ideas need to be taken to Earl and Karen. I would like to run in any class just to run but am not willing to put the wipers back on my car and fake it like so many others have done just to make enough cars to make a race.

I think the rules should be, Dot approved tires, Wipers, (wether working or not) Plates, Registration, Mufflers, Brake and head Lights, Wether stock or not. Must have body from original street car, (I.E No fiberglass except hoods and fenders, decklids)
But then again, Im just saying this because I want to run the truck in King of the street.
I think all the rules are the main reason we have no cars running in the class. and to be honest, Not a lot of people have 12.99 or quicker cars they just drive out to the track.
Honestly, If I was a fan and had some little hot rod that only needed lights, plates, mufflers, wipers, and street tires. Id be haulin a$$ over to sign up.
and as for faster cars having to wait, Match the cars up based on their E.T'S, then by the time you get down to the final 2, the faster car will have to be patient enough to wait.
Not really a king if you only rule over 5 people....

I intend on running this class regardless of changes, but changes MUST HAPPEN EARL! (I just want to race my Camaro once in a while) This class has been ridiculous for several years now. Mike, I like the new rules, but I would rethink the following: (and for the record, none of it effects me, but it might chase off other racers)
Mandatory battery disconnect switch. IHRA only requires it if the battery has been moved. Your set reads like like everybody has to have one.
Drivers side wiper's? Nobody that has a cool car has wipers. We dont drive them in the rain, we take them off cause they're ugly. Please get rid of this stupid rule once and for all. My Camaro has a wiper motor, and I carry the blade's if it looks like rain. (usually I weeny out if it looks like rain ever since I removed the inner fenders but it sounded good) But seriously... this is lame rule.
Mike your a box guy, I am a box to be guy, but people without probably wont donate $100.00 to race against one. Either have two classes, have delay box's for rent, or don't allow them. Sorry.
Just so I understand: We all race with a handicap in one big happy class right? My 11 second car will get a head start on the 8 second car? No more heads up against these guys? No problem then, line me up with them! It was a complete waste of my time, money and equipment to race my 11 second car against an 8 second one. Period. Back when I had the big motor in the car I used to deliberately back out of my throttle during the qualifying pass just so I wouldn't end up in the top four, hot lap my car and get right back in line for the handicap class after Chip or Ron beat me.
I really like this: The more cars that enter, the better the prize money. This could amount to some serious race car money with $100.00 entry fees. Especially if we can build the class back up.
In my opinion: If we want to attract more racers, make it attractive to the racers. And make a show out of it so spectators attend. We should be posting flyers at Auto-Parts Stores, show and shines etc...(Michelle could make it look like the flyers of the Gasser Days grudge match races) Make it so everybody has a chance at that big-ol purse and racers will come.

So I bet I know one guy that wants to be in KOS....... NOW ;D Yeah buddy, but this would never happen. Delete the following and I can do it: Wipers, exhaust, turn-signals, (I could use my arm but the windows don't open, what about sticking them out the door? ) plates, opening windows & street tires and we got no problem. (Other than a Race Car in Street Car event) My Camaro is in street form and I am really looking forward to this event actually. I plan on driving it to the track from my house if its on a 3 day weekend cause my trailer will already be there. (In the highly likely event that I break something) ;D

I think clint said it best. Rules are there enforce the track like a government. Every heard the phrase "Absolute Control Corupts Absolutely". I think the rules are just a little overboard. To be honest, I think their should be two main rules. 1. No delay boxes, throttle stops, 2. The car has to have been on the street. (I.E No dragsters, Altereds, funny cars ect.) It doesnt matter if the car is fiberglass, it just has to be street legal, or have the potential to be street legal. Thats like my truck, With wipers, street tires and mufflers I could have it street legal, the reason I dont, Well, I built a racetruck to be a racetruck. I guess that means I shouldn't be in KOS ):

Hey, just a thought................Time the 3 KOS races to line up with the 3 big car shows of the year. Eagle river show, Summer solstice show, and the Hot August nights show. All entrys must participate in that car show. Drive from the show ground to the race track. Park in the staging lanes. Run the events HEADS UP / NO DIAL. That there is a run what you brung (drove to the track) KING OF THE STREET event!

I already tried to get Earl to do the drive thing but he doesn't need the publicity with the good friends he has at the close proximity to the track..

Ya I heard that to Rick but if something doesn't change nothing will change. Hey, now that's a profound statement. I don't know what came over me Even though I don't run KOS I do believe the words in "King of the Street" should have some significance. I don't enjoy watching a scenario like Clint spelled out and I'm not sure who else does either.
