Mike, after I left from doing that windshield I made some calls. We have ideas for rules the big ones. 10.5 Drag radials, no 10.5w. Also no tube chassis cars. Give them their own outlaw street class.

Mike, dont give up yet! I would suggest you set up a 3 to 5 person committe. This committe changes the rules WITHOUT any other input from anybody. And then its done. Earl must agree that if you go to all this effort, that he will implement and enforce the new rules. Seriously, Sign me up. You want unbiased person, that can bring in the late model guys also. I'm a crew chief, car builder, and spectator, and retired racer.

i don't get the big grief about the 10.5w. what are we talking about? 3/4 of an inch at most? take a hoosier or a good year regular 10.5 and measure across and you'll get anywhere from 10.8" to 11". i don't like the idea of a tube chasis car either. the rules need to be in a way that would make it desirable to all who want to win a heads up as well as bracket. it's too bad that we couldn't have a weight minimum but that would just be too much expense and too much of a hassle. maybe some certain restrictions for the type of chasis or suspension. like factroy tubs and factory type of suspensions could run any tire of any size as long as it fit in the factory tub. i don't want to take people like ron or chip out of the class but rather set some guidelines that would handicap the tube type/liter cars so that(for the lack of a better term) "true street cars" would have a chance to compete with them in a heads up scenario. minimum weight requirement would be the best way that i can tell.

my 10.5w m/t that i was running measured 11" so like satellite said what is the big deal about .2-.3" yet chip and ron are running 18.5 streets that barely make dot because they have a few lines cut in them ...

Sounds like a problem putting those skinny 10.5 tires on my Nova. But if Mike can find tires to run on his Chevelle, I could probaly do it too. Still like to have 13-14" Tread width though.

KOS does not need new rules, it needs folks that will compete under the existing. It's a heads up race for the cars that are contenders...........the remainder is a bracket race. Always was, and has had good car count in the past. Remember when the red car was Ray Martin's? All the KOS stickers on his trailer? You want to be competitive, build your car to the limit of the rules, what ever they are! Change the rules all you want, they will suit some, not others and the argument will just be about something else / requirement / not fair issue. Everyone wants a class the "fits" their particular car. Thats human nature I guess. Take the word "Street" out of the name of the event and you will have a lot less attitude about the rules for the event. I just want to cut a good light and run my number, not smart enought to worry about the rest of the BS. ;D

That's why I said the Rules as writtin would work, maybe get rid of the wipers part. Let the Really Fast Cars (Top 4) run for KOS Heads up. As long as I could run for a chance at some money with the other "Not So Fast Cars" in a Bracket race, I'd like it.
But ya got to give me some tire width, Please. ;D

the rules as they currently read from the ARP rules page. "Maximum ET for qualification is 14.99 seconds" Correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't that say "Maximum ET"? I may be wrong understanding all this Drag Racing stuff, but doesn't that mean that's the fastest you can be, to be in the class. Anything faster is not allowed. It could be a mis-print. But that's what it says.

frozenws6, Its not the fact that people are afraid to run a 10.5 tire, because most have seen Tim Lynch and Dave Hance run 223 mph on them, its the fact that with most of us, we have narrowed rear ends, and to put a 10.5 tire on there, you would either have to buy anohter set of rims with a outrageous backspace, or you would have a 10 inch rim and have the tire sitting 13-14 inches inside the fender well because of the narrowed rear end. Not to mention, tires, tubes, and rims =$1000 at least. If you wanted to have the car look right, you'd be swapping out whole rear ends. Hate to say it, But 10.5 tire cars aren't a big thing up here like they are in the states. Wish they were though. Seeing Tim Lynch up here running that twin turbo 10.5 mustang was a blast. They don't launch hard at all and then pick up the front tires 300-400 feet down the track. Sometimes carry them all the way down track. Like this video of frank pompillio. 6.90 at 233 with a twin turbo big block ford and the tires touching the track maybe..twice?
Im pretty sure he replaces wheelie bar wheels more then he replaces front runners!
