Lord, This debate will go on forever ;D Jeff, I totally agee with you! The bottom line is; We Alaskan racers are just a bunch of grassroots, pure Bracket Racers. We either bracket race in the Class of our choice, or in the Money Bracket, or in the Ironman. We just race in those catagories with no mufflers or license plates. We don't have the luxury of a large car count to have six different street classes as they do outside. Let's just bracket race in the KOS class with a license plate on the back bumper, registration, mufflers, DOT tires and call it good. If we don't know how to bracket race by now, we are all in big trouble. ;D

Below are the rules as they currently read from the ARP rules page.
• Entry Fee: $50, Car and Driver only • Prizes: $500 Pro Bracket Winner, $250 Street Bracket Winner, $125 Bracket Runner Up • Class is open to cars and trucks only • Maximum ET for qualification is 14.99 seconds • Minimum of ten vehicles to compete • Any engine combination allowed. Engines are limited to one power additive (supercharger, nitrous, turbocharger) • Fuel is limited to racing gas or alcohol. NO Nitro • Must have a current registration, seasonal tags are allowed, but no temp tags, registration must match VIN and plates. NO Exceptions • Must have DOT approved street tires with factory tread (any width) or slicks stamped 10.5. No 10.5W slicks allowed. • Must have mufflers that are functional (exhaust running through them, not gutted) and the end of the exhaust pipe must extend past the last opening window • Must have functional doors and windows (open/close and roll up/down) Quarter windows may be stationary. • No dragsters, roadsters, or t-buckets (with exception of late model vehicles such as corvette convertible) • Lettering and decals limited to the windows and rocker panels (No higher than 6 inches from the lower bodyline) • Must have functional lighting system i.e.: headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals • Must have a functional charging system by means of a generator or alternator • Must have functional wipers: only exception is for pre 1950 vehicles with vacuum wipers • Tow vehicle prohibited. All cars must drive to the staging lanes and drive back to pit area after run (except if breakage occurs) • IHRA safety rules apply. Including Chassis Certification and Comp Licensing • Regardless of ET, no burnouts across the line • The race will be set up with one qualifying round. The top four will qualify for the Pro Ladder. The Pro Ladder is a heads-up, full tree race. Winner will receive $500. All other entries will go on the Street Bracket ladder and run dial-ins. Winner will receive $250, runner up will receive $125.
Gates will open at 2 pm. Time trials are from 4 until 5:30. Three parade laps down the track and back the return lane start at 6 p.m., immediately followed by the qualifying pass. There will be approximately a 15-minute break between elimination rounds.
So, if you re-write these a bit, they might work. Notice I only removed the Muffler part, Wipers, Lettering & Decals and changed Tires size.

Mike, dont give up yet! I would suggest you set up a 3 to 5 person committe. This committe changes the rules WITHOUT any other input from anybody. And then its done. Earl must agree that if you go to all this effort, that he will implement and enforce the new rules.

Got to agree with Clint on forming a Committee. Get some people that have done KOS (not just Tube Car guys either) and set-up the rules. You should however take in for consideration where we live and a few of the concerns of those that would race in it.
Since I know I will not be running KOS this year, I might next year. But I'd like to see Tire size changed, I run 31-14x15 slicks; I would need to be able to run the equivalent size of DOT tires due to my narrow rear-end. Also, How you going to deal with the Sand-Baggers, that’s what got me out of KOS.

Why do we worry about sand baggers? It's a bracket race, run your number. If your in it to win it, regardless of what the rules are now or they will be later, those that "build to the limit" of the rule will always be percived as having an unfair advantage. That's motor sports! If that bothers you guys to much, try bowling! Then you can still argue over lane prep (just like at the track). I am good with the "Rules Committee", as long as thoise cats think like me! 1st round runner up, See you in the lounge! I would only ask that what ever it is you guys think we need to do, roll out the new rules at the end of the season. Sucks making changes to meet new requirements right before game time.

Craigs right Jeff. Run your number, cut a good light and you will beat a sandbagger every-time. If you dont cut a light, or run your number you didnt desearve to win anyway. This committe should be comprised of people from a few different perspectives. Such as: 1: Somebody who runs with a box 2: Somebody with big tires 3: Somebody with a 12 second or slower car. (not that we care about these people but it's a courtesy) ;D
3 people are probably enouph. Much more than that, and they'll never agree on anything. We all need to keep an open mind, and do what is best for ARP / (get the car count up and make a profit)

Put some cheater slicks on it, and go get your money!

Craigs right Jeff. Run your number, cut a good light and you will beat a sandbagger every-time. Yeah Right, like this old guy with a Nasty Green 55 Chevy that can run mid 9's, but puts 10.50 on the window against my 10.90. He just needs in bumper and then play the throttle game. Happened to me more then once and I'm sure it will happen again. Glad I don't race just for the money.

Hey, what if my car qualifies on all three conditions? Would I get the first round by and lane choice? ;D That's it! I am selling my junk and building a dedicated KOS masheen! Big tired tube chassis with no power. Gonna dial a 12.50 (WARNING will run a 12 flat with tail wind, may do some sand bagging) Get me a bad azz box and leave on you when the win light comes on from the previous round! How many power adders will be allowed, may have to play catch up if my sandbagging is looking weak!Game on loosers!

Your right about that 55. It's Green and he is old! It has not been to the track in two years, will be back this year and should be quicker than ever. Next time your dealing with a known sandbagger and you still get the leave in the slower car, dial soft and dump him at the stripe, smile as you go by him when he figures out he just went under................
Lots of games to play in a bracket race. Its all good and part of the game. If not for that we would only need one lane!

I was thinking about driving by the Tach this year, right around 5500 RPM’s on the limiter for T&T. Then use that Dial-in for racing, but turn up the limiter to 8000. Think I’d have the field covered with a 17.20 ET on the window. Of course I’d slow way way down before the finish.
