I am thinking my RM509 has a stepped pan? Would that be a different application?

Is there ever an easy answer to any thing we Drag Racers do? We just got done putting jeffs engine back in the car with his new diaper. We haven't even got under there to try and see how the oil change thing is going to go. It looks like it might be a nightmare, but we'll see. We could care less about how it sits on the crossmember, it's getting to the drain plug and filter that is the biggest concern. It's tight but it's on there and he's now legal.

No Craig! Your car is wide open under the oil pan from what I remember? I called DRE to re-order a custom built diaper. 10 different photos and a blueprint. Just a mere $500.00 and it still isn't SFI'd. The things we do to make it down the quarter mile.

Im starting to think it would be easier to build a containment pan under the car than getting a diaper to fit. Ziptie a cookie sheet underneath lol.

So here's the thing I just don't get, you need a diaper or a PAN. I can see the diaper since it encloses the oil pan & side of motor. However, What the hell is the pan going to catch It would have to be made out of something that would stop a Rod or Cap from going through it, I know Rod & Cap pieces go through an oil pan, cause I did that. So if you built it to stop metal pieces, and it has 1"-2" side walls, How do you keep the 100 MPH + wind from blowing it out and all over.

I seem to recall that Mr. Creech was planning on going the route of pan install.......... Wonder if he could enlighten us on what that would require?..................

www.jerrybickel.com/engine-oil-containment-pan-carbon-fiber-diaper-nhra-accepted.htmlThat's one way to do it...a little over 1G for a carbon fiber drip tray! Rule book says......... ENGINE CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: (diaper) Required in TF, PNFC, TD, TS. In addition to the classes listed above, all Supercharged and Nitrous assisted vehicles running 7.99 or quicker 1/4 or 5.00 or quicker 1/8 mile regardless of classification. An IHRA accepted belly pan may be used in place of the diaper in ET, TS and TD provided it meets the following criteria. It must extend from framerail to framerail and be minimum of 2 inches highon all sides and extend beyond the engine and its related oil accessories. A non flammable absorbant pad must be utilized in the device.

I did and I think that I've got under $250 in it. Marty took the car to Gene LaMay's and he built a two piece pan to go under the engine and transmission. Four Tzus fasteners per each piece and folder clips to hold the absorbent pads in. It's not a PITA like a diaper is.

Sorry, I dont! It's rather simple. Two rectangular Pieces of aluminum with a 3" lip on three sides, with the open sides overlapping facing each other and overlapping.

Sounds like a better alternative than the diaper. I'll have to check yours out at the track so if for some weird reason my car goes fast and I need one I'll get some good ideas from it.

Tim, You won't have to worry about a belly pan if you go fast with your Elcamino, as those pans fit square and round tube chassis cars and dragsters. A square box with 2" to 3" tall sides will not fit a car with stock factory suspension. Now if you take a tarp and start at the front bumper and end at the rear bumper with bungee cords tied to the door handles to hold it up. Now that would be special! Oh, it should be bright yellow so everyone can see it.
