Well haven't heard a lot about Diapers lately. What you all going to try to get pass Tech without one I'll be at the Tech Area yelling to check his diaper . I'll also be up at the water box with a sign saying "They make me wear a diaper - Where's his" Wait a minute, that sign would make me look Dumb ...... Never mind about the sign part.

This reminded me and I started google searching engine diapers and this came up from good vibes racing. Looks like a pretty good deal, SFI certified, and they have quick releases! this is most likely where im going to be getting mine from! www.goodvibesracing.com/DJSafetyEngineDiapers.htm#Ballistic Nylon

I am so frustrated with this diaper issue i was about ready to explode today . I now own two diapers, one plain and one custom and there is no possible way that they will fit with all the tight tolerances of this build. I have spent days working on this and once fitted (kinda) the headers would have burnt them up in seconds and interfered with being able to steer the car. I have close to 1k invested in these things and was so pissed that i was about ready to call it quits and pro street that damn car and give up racing. My wife talked some sense in me and suggested that i talk with Earl about some kind of alternative, after re gaining my sanity i did give him a call. I am now going to try and build a drip pan that runs from the front of the oil pan to the back with two inch sides that a sorbent pad will Velcro in the pan, this will be accepted at ARP in place of an actual diaper. OK, my rant is over. Can anyone suggest a good sheet metal shop that could build the pan from my template?

thats what I was thinking of doing if by some chance I end up under 10 seconds ground clearance might be an issue tho and building something that fits between the crossmember and the oilpan might be a trick...thinking about making one that bolts to the crossmember and goes to the back end of the oilpan..maybe as long as it covers the crank and rods of the engine Mark will let it pass...are you going to make yours from aluminum or does it have to be steel?

I am going to have to weld a tab on each side of the crossmember and build two brackets at the rear somehow. I am going to build a pan from cardboard or construction paper to make a template and then have someone recreate out of aluminum. My car is 99.9% complete, this is the last hurdle to overcome and it has about got me burnt out.

It actually will be pretty nice, i built it with 2 inch sides and 4 inchs at the rear, 26 inchs long and 15 inchs wide. It was built to fit the car and starts right behind the steering draglink (my motor has crank hub, no damper) and stops and seals at the front of tranny to the catch can also sealing in convertor. Earl will accept it and sense it is an Earl rule, not IHRA until 7.99 or whatever it is thats all i care about. It should work very well for any kinda of drips and with the sorbent pad from one of my diapers attached in the bottom of the pan would hold a few gallons anyway.

Bringing this back up to the top. Just got my first annual done yesterday and Mark informed me that I needed an engine diaper. Its 10.99 and faster now instead of 9.99 that needs one. Good news it other than that and some screw in valve stems (changed out this morning) the car is good to go. Any suggestions? (SBC with an 8 qt Moroso pan) Looking at these guys because they will do a "custom fit" www.enginediapers.com/ Probably have to go with the Kevlar to prevent melting because my headers are pretty close to the block. Will PS, he said I don't need an SFI one, but from what I see on line the SFI ones look like the only ones I wont melt.

Hey Will, I put one from DRE on my car,it fits pretty good. It was "not" a custom fit or SFI. I talked with them and he just trimmed up the front. It has some tight spots but it does fit, doesn't drag and gets the job done. They were great to me.... I think was $160-170 area.. We gotta play buy the rules, I've heard of track back east that make all 'RACE Cars have a diaper... No big deal.. Dwayne

Thanks Dwayne. Are you running Hooker full length headers (2210HKR)? My #8 primary tube comes about 1/4" away from the oil filter mount. If the diaper goes around the filter instead of over it will should be fine. Crossmember clearance and all other places look good. Ill give Dennis a call tomorrow, hopefully he says I can do the same as you did and get the same thing. This is the last thing I need now.

Just want to say hold your guns, I talked with Earl and Mark and both were unsure on this rule.... They are going to talk tomorrow. I think there was a brain fart on this and it will stay at 9.99........ Mark said he would let me know.
