Rule book says......... ENGINE CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: (diaper) Required in TF, PNFC, TD, TS. In addition to the classes listed above, all Supercharged and Nitrous assisted vehicles running 7.99 or quicker 1/4 or 5.00 or quicker 1/8 mile regardless of classification. An IHRA accepted belly pan may be used in place of the diaper in ET, TS and TD provided it meets the following criteria. It must extend from framerail to framerail and be minimum of 2 inches highon all sides and extend beyond the engine and its related oil accessories. A non flammable absorbant pad must be utilized in the device. You hit the nail right on the head Craig! Where is the 9.99 and quicker phrase? It's Earl's rule not IHRA's rule. your telling me that we all cant get together and talk to earl

So what I don't understand is this. If you run faster than 9.99 you need oil containment. I'm my opinion if someone is running faster than 9.99 they must have good shit in there car to run those speeds and for Mark to pass their car on tech inspection.
If someones running an old beater engine in some old car with who knows what for a bottom end in it they do not need any way to prevent oil from getting on the track.
Earl should know that the guys running that fast out there weekend after weekend should be able to be trusted. Shit happens but I don't think just because you run faster than 9.99 your car should need a way to catch the oil when it's not required by IHRA at a IHRA track.

Tim, You won't have to worry about a belly pan if you go fast with your Elcamino, as those pans fit square and round tube chassis cars and dragsters. A square box with 2" to 3" tall sides will not fit a car with stock factory suspension. Now if you take a tarp and start at the front bumper and end at the rear bumper with bungee cords tied to the door handles to hold it up. Now that would be special! Oh, it should be bright yellow so everyone can see it. Now that is a great idea!! Monday morning I'm placing my order for that yellow tarp!!

It's Earl's rule not IHRA's rule. your telling me that we all cant get together and talk to earl I think the time to talk about it was about 2 years ago..... The only reason for the reference to the IHRA ruling was to speak to what might be considered as "accepted IHRA pan construction". I have waited until the last minute to address this ARP requirement on the off chance that it might go away. Too late for that, wonder how pissed those that did make ready would be if Earl reversed his decision? Now we find ourselfs trying to best determine how to make it happen. Not cheap, not pretty, and of questionable value. Hey, that's a pretty good description of my cars! ;D I have recognized that other tracks have like "self imposed" requirement for containment at exactly the same ET break at 9.99 and for the same reasoning. Safety and track clean up time. When in Rome, be a Roman. When at ARP, wear a diaper.

The best/easiest way to install a diaper in your car is to not install a diaper at all but rather buy this... www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-65042?part=mor-65042Now if you run a 9.99, turn the stop and like magic, you don't need a diaper as well roll cage, neck collar, gloves, fire pants, flexplate shield, etc.! Problem solved!

PS: And on a .400 Pro Tree.

Now that's another subject......No throttle stops allowed at ARP.............
I do think that being a bottom 10's type car is the best value for dollars invested to good fun ratio. The requirements and SFI stuff required at 9.99 kind of kills it for me. Why no throttle stops at ARP? Is it because index racing is about as spectator friendly as watching a bridge tournament? That's a different world........10.90 ET at 165MPH

I think that part is a dead stop. NOT a throttle stop. They went round and round with that on Nathen/Mikes dragster a year or two ago. Throttle stops are electric. (By most standards.) With a dead stops you can not over ride it with a switch... Just my thought. T-Stop racing can be fun... Soo can 1/8 mile racing.. I think the street car class should go that way.. The money bracket on those days runs that way.

I guess my throttle arm acts like a Dead Stop. When it hits the firewall it stops dead, no way to adjust the firewall unless I use a hammer.
I like the 1/8th mile deal too.

Hmmm, T stops, count me in Mike. But we'll have to make sure that JJ gets one too. I think he's loading some secret weapons...

I think we have a few cars with parachutes that dont need them, wings too! They look racey, everyone knows chicks dig wings and chutes!
Mike, that ten flat car at 149 MPH would be killer. How about getting there with NO2 on a timer? That would be cool.....................

Me and Mom need to get the pans put on our cars. I'm not running a diaper. Scott shouldn't either, he just got out of em' Anyone found a decent price on the pans? Everyone that i've seen has been $200-$300 I know that the actual diaper would be more safe, but what about the heat. I know we've gone over this before, but running blown gas, my truck will be hot as it is. I think I'll take my chances and run the pan. If I blow it up bad enough to shoot something through the oil pan AND through the pan, Im pretty sure I'll be done for the season. Back to photos
